Coroner’s Inquests & Death Reports (1820-1950)
These records contain the proceedings of a coroner’s inquest in cases of homicide, accidental or sudden death showing decedent, date of death, witnesses, coroner’s jurors, testimony, and verdict as to the cause or manner of death. Starting in 1925, death reports were kept and maintained with the inquests. Death reports contain a record of deaths reported to – but not investigated by – the coroner, showing name and address of decedent; time, place, and cause of death; and the name of attending physician.
